How to Stop Snacking at Work
We have all been there, you turn up to work promising yourself that today will be the day when you only eat healthy food. You are determined that whatever happens no chocolate biscuits will find their way from the kitchen to your desk.
It’s nine am and everything is still going well, you even manage a piece of fruit! However, it’s 10am and a colleague makes a coffee and invites you to the vending machine for something to munch on whilst you have a quick chat.
You try to tell your colleague that no chocolate today, you’ll be fine with your carrot sticks! The look on your friends face says it all – OK you say tomorrow will be the day I stop snacking at work.
So on and on it goes but you never actually manage to stop snacking, the days turn into weeks, weeks into years and before you know it you’ve piled on the pounds. Snacking at work is a big problem day in, day out for the vast majority of us. The average person spends £25 on snacks every month. However, it doesn’t have to be like this.
There are many ways you can stop snacking at work. The office does not need to be the place you lose all willpower.
Here are my top 5 tips to help you cut out those snacks at your desk:
1.Fruit on the Move
Whilst travelling to work why not eat an apple or banana, as well as passing the time it will fill you up until lunchtime.
2. Remain Calm
Getting stressed is one of the biggest reasons why snacking at work is so hard to control. If you can stay relaxed by planning your workload efficiently then it will be easier to say no to those unhealthy snacks. Try making tomorrows to-do list at the end of today, this means that you will already have a plan before the phones and emails need to be dealt with.
3. Buy a fruit bowl
Buy a fruit bowl, fill it with fruit obviously, and place it on your desk, this will give you an alternative option to eating chocolate, cakes or pastries.
4. Don’t carry cash
If you don’t have any change then you can’t use the vending machine for its endless supply of snacks. I keep all my change at home and save it up for a special treat.
5. Boredom = Snacking
Most of us snack when we are bored and can’t find anything else to do. If you can keep yourself busy then you will not even think about snacking. Always ensure you have tasks to do to keep your mind off sweet treats.
6. Try an Appetite Suppressant
